Sabin Fung – Volunteer of the Month for July 2021
Sabin Fung is our volunteer of the month for July, thank you to Norgaby Diaz from CLARC for the nomination.
Sabin came to Canada in 2012. Like most newcomers, she found it hard adjusting to life in her new country. Thanks to the support of Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC), she slowly started settling into her new life. A big believer in giving back to her community, Sabin reached out to ISC to inquire about volunteer opportunities. Since 2015, she has dedicated over 130 volunteer hours to income tax clinics, child-minding programs, and in office support roles. She is currently volunteering as a remote receptionist in the Calgary Language Assessment and Referral Centre (CLARC).
"I really enjoy helping newcomers book the assessments and get referrals to improve their language skills. It is extremely rewarding and meaningful to help newcomers and refugees start their new page successfully in Calgary and at the same time learn valuable skills through this enriching experience! These skills also helped me find a new job. As a result, I believe volunteering with ISC is a win-win situation."
