Dr. Richard Guy is an Honorary Doctor and Professor Emeritus in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Calgary. He immigrated to Canada from Great Britain in 1965 and has been recognized for his work in number theory, combinational game theory, geometry, graph theory and environmental outcomes. Dr. Guy has published more than 300 documents in mathematical periodicals and is a reliable reference for more than 20 periodicals. He has also written 20 math books, two of which are used in numerous University programs.In addition to his professional accomplishments, he is an enthusiastic alpine climber and the founder of The Louise and Richard Guy Hut in memory of his late wife. Every year Dr. Guy climbs up the 802 steps of the Calgary Tower as part of the Alberta Wilderness Association’s Climb for Wilderness event. This year, just months before his 100th birthday, Dr. Guy climbed the tower carrying a photo of his wife who had faithfully climbed with him every year until her passing at age 92.
