Immigrants of Distinction Awards

Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC), proudly invites you to the 23rd Annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards (IDA) on Friday, March 15, 2019. The theme for the 23rd Annual Awards is 'Immigration - Building Canada's Prosperity’. This year we aim to recognize inspirational immigrants and refugees in our nation’s ever-expanding mosaic of ethnicities, languages, cultures, and talents that have come together to create a strong and prosperous Canada.

We are pleased to announce that this year's event will feature a new format and venue! The awards ceremony, featuring special entertainment, will take place in the theatre of Mount Royal University’s prestigious Bella Concert Hall (located in the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts) and will be followed by a cocktail networking reception with hors d'oeuvres and silent auction.

More than 500 guests will be in attendance, including prominent business leaders, high-ranking officials from all three levels of Canadian government, international representatives of government, immigrant and refugee communities and civic-minded Calgarians.

6:00 pm – Doors open
6:30 pm – Awards ceremony
8:00 pm – Cocktail networking reception and silent auction (hors d'oeuvre will be served).
Where: Bella Concert Hall, Mount Royal University
The Bella Concert Hall is located in the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts at the East Gate of the Mount Royal University campus, 18 Mount Royal Circle SW, Calgary.

The 2019 Immigrants of Distinction Awards finalists are as follows:

  • Achievement Under 35: Hyunmin Jung, Aishwarya Khanduja, Oluseyi Smith
  • Arts and Culture: Roma Thakore, Wilmer Aburto, Sisay Shimeles

  • Community Service: Victorino Lantion, Jean Claude Munyezamu, Toko Ishikawa

  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Nancy Nasr, Dr. Sreekumar Menon, Amy Giang

  • Lifetime Achievement: Dr. Adriana Fishta-Bejko, Dr. Mauricio Monroy-Cuadros, Madeleine King

  • Organizational Diversity: Norfolk Housing Association, Canadian Western Bank, Tower Cleaners

  • Youth Scholarships: Arijit Lodha, Claire Du, Nihal Potdar, Riri Jiang, Jadé Olayinka

These inspirational finalists showcase a broad range of incredible talents and achievements and we are thrilled to recognize their exemplary contributions to the Calgary community.
