The Calgary Youth Justice Society is an organization that connects adult volunteers with young people who are facing challenges in their lives and some who are already involved with the criminal justice system.
It believes that for vulnerable youth, the difference between trouble and triumph is a community that cares, and every young person has the potential to meaningfully impact our community.
In this workshop, Erik Birke, a Community Engagement Coordinator with the society, will help explain the Youth Criminal Justice Act, what happens when a young person is alleged to have committed a crime, and the types of consequences assigned to youth.
Additional discussion topics include learning about Youth Justice Committees and traditional vs. restorative justice.
