Bobby’s Journey to Career Success in Canada

When Bobby arrived in Canada as a permanent resident, he felt confident in his experience from his home country and believed it would be easy to find a job. However, after sending out numerous applications without receiving any responses, his confidence was impacted, and he started to feel discouraged.

This situation led him to seek counselling support at the Calgary Language Assessment and Referral Centre (CLARC), a program offered by Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC).

At CLARC, Bobby completed a free language assessment, significantly boosting his confidence in his abilities. He also met a Newcomer Language Specialist who recognized his potential and referred him to another organization that provides career and employment services.

While receiving career support, he worked with a career coach who helped refine his resume and identify the transferable skills he could maximize in his job applications. In October 2024, Bobby eventually landed an ideal role that allowed him to continue his career path.

With the help of the Newcomer Language Specialist at ISC, Bobby received the direction he needed for his career. “Your guidance during a crucial moment in my job search transformed my experience here in Calgary,” he said.

ISC’s CLARC program offers free English and French testing to eligible clients living in Calgary, Brooks, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and surrounding areas. The program also provides educational counselling, free language resources, and referrals to English language programs.
