Nicolas Martinez – Volunteer of the Month for November 2024

Nicolas is originally from Colombia. He moved to Calgary in June 2024 and faced the challenges of settling into a new country without support.

His experiences inspired him to seek ways to assist other newcomers. Just one month after his arrival, Nicolas became a volunteer with the Client Care Team at Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC).

Since July 2024, he has accumulated over 117 hours of volunteer service. Nicolas considers his volunteering experience as one of the best aspects of his life in a new country.

One of the most rewarding experiences has been my volunteer work, helping new immigrants adapt to life in Canada.”

Nicolas’ fluency in English and Spanish helps him assist a wide range of ISC’s clients, offering them the practical and emotional support he himself missed.

Nicolas finds volunteering rewarding as it allows him to contribute significantly to the community and positively impact others.

Abdallah Abushammala, ISC’s Client Care Manager, has observed Nicolas’ empathy while serving clients and appreciates his ongoing commitment to the work he does.

“Nicolas is always willing to go the extra mile for our clients and the team,” he said.
