The Impact of Your Donation: Liudmyla’s Story
Liudmyla Sarhosh arrived in Calgary on October 20, 2023, under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET), filled with expectations for a fresh start.
Upon her arrival, she was surprised to learn that some of the immigration programs that attracted her to Alberta had closed. Despite this, she remained determined to succeed in a city where she had no friends or family.
“My journey to Canada from Ukraine has been one filled with both challenges and triumphs,” Liudmyla said.
As she navigated the challenges of finding housing and employment, she was surprised at the diversity and opportunities that Calgary offered. She soon got a job at a furniture showroom as a social media promoter, but she wanted more. While seeking better opportunities, she met with a Gateway Newcomer Planner at Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) in November 2023.
The planner helped her navigate the job market more effectively by reviewing her resume, offering valuable advice, and providing the necessary tools to enhance her application, including a resume sample.
Through this support from ISC, Liudmyla resumed her dream job as an Administrative Assistant at Mount Royal University’s Career Services Department in March 2024.
“As I look ahead, I am eager to continue embracing the opportunities that Calgary and Canada have to offer.”
