Tetiana Melnyk – Volunteer of the Month for August 2023
Tetiana Melnyk is motivated by a strong desire to make a positive difference in the lives of newcomers, and it led her to volunteer with Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) in May 2023.
A newcomer to Canada herself, Tetiana had moved to Canada from Ukraine earlier that year with a master’s degree in law and more than 15 years of legal experience.
When a friend told her about ISC and its work assisting newcomers and providing support to Ukrainians, Tetiana says she was “truly inspired.’
Just a few months later, she has already dedicated over 150 hours to the organization.
“My volunteering journey with ISC has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” Tetiana said.
Her roles have included reception, where she helps clients navigate their way through the integration process, and translation services, where she facilitates communication and understanding for Ukrainian clients.
“My favourite thing about volunteering with ISC is the sense of fulfillment I get when I see the positive impact of my efforts on the lives of others,” she said.
“Witnessing the smiles on the faces of newcomers as they receive the help they need brings me immense joy, and reaffirms my commitment to volunteer work.”
Tetiana’s dedication has been noticed and valued by clients and colleagues alike.
“In the short time Tetiana has been involved at ISC, she has already made a significant impact here due to her hard work and professionalism,” said ISC Volunteer Coordinator Maram Hajjo.
“She exhibits excellent communication skills and a welcoming attitude to clients, making it a warm and comfortable environment for them. We are incredibly grateful for her.”
“Tetiana is truly making a difference in the lives of many through her many hours of volunteering. Her enthusiasm and commitment are remarkable as she consistently goes above and beyond in supporting newcomer families build their life in Canada. We truly appreciate having Tetiana as a Client Care Volunteer!”
