Susan Blanchard – Volunteer of the Month for February 2023
After retiring, Susan saw a volunteer post in which Immigrant Services Calgary wanted someone to help with creating a video for our Early Learning Across Cultures program for 3–5-year-old children and their parents or caregivers. We were glad to have her join the volunteer team and contribute her skillset to the program. This is her story:
"From beginning to end, the project was a lot of fun. A total of about 60-70 hours went toward all of the following: meetings to plan the project, writing the script, voiceover, shooting the video, selecting video images, and video-editing with my husband’s help. My husband also created the music for the video.
My favourite thing about volunteering is feeling needed and feeling a sense of connection that comes from helping others. I’ll continue to want to give through volunteering which is what makes it so special. I spend much of my time volunteering by hosting walks for the Calgary Ladies Walking Group."
"Susan was eager to assist in the Early Learning Across Cultures program. She highlighted the children's creative work and activities that we were doing during summer camp in a video she co-created with her husband. We value her time and commitment to the program."
