On January 9, 2023, the Government of Canada announced the International Experience Canada (IEC) program is now accepting applications from international youth interested in coming to Canada to gain work and travel experiences.

International youth bring valuable and diverse skills to Canada's economy through the IEC program, while Canadian youth also benefit from gaining international experience through working and traveling abroad. This program provides young people with the opportunity to explore new cultures, learn new languages, develop valuable skills, and gain meaningful work and life experiences that will benefit them in their future careers.

This year, Canada will extend this opportunity to almost 90,000 international youth, as announced on December 1, 2022. Those already in the IEC pool will begin receiving invitations to apply for their work permit. This expansion will assist Canadian employers in finding the workers they need to fill labour shortages across the country.
