Alec Silenzi
Since 2019, Alec has been the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary of Alberta Innovates, the Government of Alberta’s research and innovation agency. He is a member of the executive team and oversees the legal function across the organization, including Legal, Contracts, Office of the Corporate Secretary, Library, Records and FOIP, and Research Ethics.
He has more than 26 years of legal, governance, and business experience, both as in-house counsel and in private practice. Alec also has extensive experience in corporate, commercial governance, M&A, securities, corporate finance, oil & gas, employment law, litigation, and compliance. Prior to moving into in-house roles, Alec was a corporate and securities partner at Gowlings LLP.
Alec received his B.A. from the University of Calgary in 1990 and his law degree from the University of Alberta in 1994. He was called to the Bar of the Law Society of Alberta in 1995. He is a member of several non-profit boards, including CanLearn, the Calgary Horticultural Society, and Vivo For Healthier Generations.
