Immigrant Services Calgary offers a variety of volunteer positions:

Currently, Immigrant Services Calgary is recruiting for the following positions:

  • Interpreters: Provide interpretation services during appointments (e.g. medical, legal, social services, etc.)
    • Requirements:
      • Fluency in spoken English (CLB 7 or above)
      • Fluency in speaking one or more of the following languages:  Tigrigna, Amharic, Somali, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Polish, Nuer, Dinka
      • Available on weekdays during regular office hours
      • Ability to travel to community locations
  • Translators: Provide translation of documents such as driver’s licenses or birth certificates.
    • Requirements:
      • Fluency in written English (CLB 7 or above)
      • Fluency in reading and writing in one or more of the following languages: Portuguese, Amharic, Tigrigna, Ukrainian, Polish, French (native)
  • Children’s Programs Volunteer: Assists ISC staff in facilitating children’s activities such as reading circles, crafts, playing, singing, dancing, and others. This role may also include helping with setting-up and cleaning-up, preparing healthy snacks, childminding, assisting with workshops and other tasks.
    • Requirements:
      • Experience working with children
      • Availability is variable.  Including weekdays during regular office hours as well as other times including evenings and weekends. 
      • Ability to travel to community locations
  • Tutors: Provide tutoring in school subjects (i.e. English, Math, Science, Social Science, etc.) to immigrant/refugee learners (grades 1-12). Tutors help students build academic skills, develop better study habits, improve self-confidence, and achieve success in school and life.
    • Requirements:
      • Completion of secondary education
      • Fluency in English (CLB 7 and above)
      • Experience working with kids and/or youth
      • Availability on weekdays during afternoon and/or evening.

    • Requirements:
      • At least 2 years of professional Canadian work experience
