OUSTANDING NUMBER OF NOMINATIONS FOR 2013 IMMIGRANTS OF DISTINCTION AWARDS

Calgary, AB, Monday, January 14, 2013 --- Immigrant Services Calgary is pleased to announce that Calgarians have once again responded overwhelmingly to the 2013 call for nominations for the Immigrants of Distinction Awards. “A total of 59 resounding nominations have been received” confirms Cindy DeVouge, Chief Development Officer for the 35 year old organization that provides services to immigrants and newcomers to Calgary.  The agency boasts nominations in all categories and according to Chief Executive Officer Din Ladak,   “our selection committee has a challenging job ahead of them based on the caliber of this year’s nominees”.

 

Since 1997, Immigrant Services Calgary has hosted the annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards Gala to honour the outstanding contributions of immigrants and refugees to Calgary and their community. Through their skills, passion and vision, the achievements of newcomers have contributed to the cultural richness of Calgary. The awards are presented to outstanding individuals and businesses at the yearly gala, and scholarships are presented to outstanding immigrant and refugee youth. This year will be a special celebration as in marks the end of Immigrant Services Calgary’s 35th year of service in the community.

Nominations are in the following categories:

  • Individual nominations in the categories of:  Arts and Culture, Business, Community Service, Lifetime Achievement, Achievement Under 40 and Youth Scholarships.
  • Individual nominations for the Hadassah Ksienski Distinguished Service Award.
  • Business/Organization nominations for the Organizational Diversity category.

Individuals who have been nominated must reside in Calgary or the surrounding area. Nominated organizations must have a Calgary office, either locally owned or a local branch of a national or multi-national organization. All entries are being reviewed by an anonymous selection committee comprised of distinguished members of the community.

Award recipients will be announced at the 2013 Immigrants of Distinction Awards Gala at the Calgary Westin on March 1, 2013.
