Minister Ablonczy to visit Women’s Mentorship Program

Calgary, AB, Monday, August 30, 2010 --- On August 31, 2010, The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State for Seniors, will visit Immigrant Services Calgary and the Integrated Women’s Mentorship program to make a funding announcement for Phase II of the Integrated Women’s Mentorship Program. Photo opportunities will be available. Minister Ablonczy will learn more about the program and its valuable efforts to increase fair representation of diverse women in all aspects of the Calgary community, and tour the agency. Photo opportunities will be available.

For over two years, the Integrated Women’s Mentorship Program has been helping immigrant women overcome barriers to employment and prepare for a professional career in Canada with the guidance of a mentor in their professional field. Demand for the program has continued to grow as the program has continued to help women find employment or educational opportunities in Canada. After successfully helping women build valuable career skills in the first phase, the program has now entered into Phase II designed to enhance the mentoring relationship and support women’s leadership in the community. Now, in addition to matching women with mentors, the program will increase the quality of training provided to mentors, offer leadership training to both mentors and mentees, and look to provide job shadowing and internship opportunities for the mentees. Ultimately, the program is geared to continue to grow and support diverse women in their journeys in Canada. Immigrant Services Calgary is excited to introduce Minister Ablonczy to this valuable program.
