Calgary, AB, Tuesday, December 11, 2012 - Do you know an immigrant who has made amazing contributions to Calgary’s community in the fields of Arts and Culture, Professional Achievement, Business or Community Service, or an organization with a record of embracing diversity? What about an immigrant or refugee youth whose leadership, dedication and well roundedness makes them truly shine?

The nominations for the 17th Annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards are now open and will be accepted until Friday, January 4, 2013 at midnight. For more information please visit our website at  

Award recipients will be announced at the Awards Gala on Friday, March 1, 2013.

Since 1997, Immigrant Services Calgary has hosted the annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards gala to recognize the outstanding contributions of immigrants and refugees to Calgary and their community. Immigrant Services Calgary is proud to honour the humble, hardworking and truly generous immigrants of Calgary. Through their skills, passion and vision, the achievements of newcomers have enhanced the cultural richness of Calgary.

We are currently accepting nominations in the following categories:


·         Arts and Culture

·         Community Service

·         Business Award

·         Lifetime Achievement

·         Achievement Under 40

·         Hadassah Ksienski Distinguished Service Award

·         Organizational Diversity Award

·         Youth Scholarship Awards

Individuals and organizations who are nominated must reside in Calgary or the surrounding area. Nominated organizations must have a Calgary office, either locally owned or a local branch of a national or multi-national organization. All nominations are to be submitted on 2013 IDA Award Nomination Forms at by January 4, 2013. All entries will be reviewed by an anonymous selection committee comprised of community members. Award recipients will be announced at the 17th Annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards Gala in the spring of 2013. Candidates must be nominated by someone other than themselves with the exception of the Youth Scholarship Category
