2015 Immigrants of Distinction Awards Finalists

Calgary, AB, February 5, 2015 – Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) is pleased to announce the finalists for the 19th annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards “Inspiring New Stories”.

 

Our Immigrants of Distinction Awards are designed to bring community stories of achievement and contribution while recognizing some of Calgary’s most esteemed immigrants. We offer awards in Business, Arts and Culture, Youth Scholarships, Community Service, Hadassah Ksienski Distinguished Service, Organizational Diversity, Lifetime Achievement and Achievement Under 40.

 

“Immigrant Service Calgary is very proud to be able to showcase and recognize the outstanding contributions of immigrants to the Calgary community,” says Krystyna Biel, CEO of Immigrant Services Calgary. “Honouring excellence in each category is not only a treat for the finalists, award recipients and guests: it is an extraordinary platform for us to reflect on why we do what we do as an organization everyday.”

 

Award recipients will be announced at the annual gala to be held on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 6 p.m. at The Westin Calgary Hotel. The event is expected to host over 600 guests including representation from government, the corporate community, and the voluntary sector.

 

“The 19th Annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards will live up to its theme of Inspiring New Stories,” comments Hala Dehais, event Chair and Board Member. “We are looking forward to showcasing the achievements of our finalists and sharing their stories with our guests and incredible event hosts, entertainment and new partnerships.” 

 

This year’s Immigrants of Distinction Awards finalists are as follows:

 

Arts and Culture: Toshi Jackson and Vania Dimitrova

Business: Girish Agrawal

Community Service: Carolina Dalgleish, Gurmit Sarpal and Yasmin Kothari

Lifetime Achievement: Carolina Dalgleish and Chan Wirasinghe

Achievement Under 40: Ariam Wolde-Giorgis

Organizational Diversity: Accenture and Rogers

Youth Scholarship: Mahtab Dhaliwal, Ziad Paracha, Nilufer Hasanova, Vidya Bavalana, Syeda Rizvi

Hadassah Ksienski Distinguished Service: Carolina Dalgleish

 

These finalists showcase a broad range of incredible talents and contributions, yet are united in that they exemplify the high level of achievement Calgary’s immigrants are reaching.
